Garden of Eden

I am researching a novel about the quest for paradise.

The book has two interwoven narratives: one is the semi-fictional story of the creation of the Hereford Mappa Mundi in medieval Lincoln and Hereford; the other is the account of a modern traveller’s attempt to find the Earthly Paradise, inspired by the map. I cycled across Hainan Island off South East China in March 2012 on a research trip. The book also takes inspiration from John Mandeville’s Book of Travels, the fabulous account of a fourteenth-century journey from St Albans to the edge of Paradise.
