In July 2013, Matt Evans, Tom Kingsley, Tom Williams and I followed the footsteps of John Clare from Epping Forest to Northborough.
In July 1841, John Clare left his asylum in High Beach, Epping Forest and walked up the Great North Road to his home in Northborough, Cambridgeshire. He wrote an extraordinary account of this walk in ‘Journey out of Essex’. We followed his route on foot as accurately as possible.
